Hello everyone,
Long time no see!
Today's new Japanese Sign Language photo "Good work".
Japanese people say "Otsukaresamadesu" for:
1. Finishing work or any activity
2. To people who have traveled a long way.
酒 (Sake) Means Liquor! Not "Rice Wine"!
Many people think that the Japanese word "Sake"（酒）means Japanese Rice Wine.
But this is a terrible misconception...
"Nihon Shu"（日本酒）means "Rice Wine".
Nihon Shu, is the standard image of a "small ceramic bottle and shot glass / tiny plate".
Here are the many different types of liquors in Japan:
1. Beer（ビール）= 80% of beers are usually Lagers. Hard to find Ale and Pilsner types.
2. Shochu（焼酎）= Similar to Vodka, but usually 20% - 25% alcohol content.
3. Nihon Shu（日本酒）= Liquor made from rice.
4. Ume Shu（梅酒）= Plum wine.
5. All other spirits = Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey etc...
Many people think that the Japanese word "Sake"（酒）means Japanese Rice Wine.
But this is a terrible misconception...
Japanese Plum Wine is very sweet and easy to drink. Want to know more? :

Rikomama, explains all the different types of foods in traditional Japanese cuisine, which consists of many different vegetables, a variety of meats and low cholesterol.

こんにちは、皆さん。家族や友達、そしてBBQ仲間との楽しいサマータイムを過してるかな！今月は、楽しみ、ワクワクするようなものが沢山満たされ、本当に素晴らしいことになっています。
Hello everybody, we hope you're having a good summer, enjoying time with your family, friends and BBQ's! This month has been a really great, filled with a lot of fun and exciting things for us.
1. デフジャパンの生徒たち、私たちは２人のASLの先生、ギャリーとペーターと楽しむことができました。しかしながら、私たちは、ギャリー先生にサヨナラを言わなければなりません。彼は今月末にギャローデット大学に戻ります。彼と一緒に働けたことを光栄に思っております。うまくいけば、私たちは、近い将来、又、彼と会えるかもしれません。
1. DeafJapan students we able to enjoy having two ASL teachers, Gary and Peter. However, we must say goodbye to Gary, he is returning back to Gallaudet the end of this month. It's been such a great pleasure to have him here working together with us. Hopefully, we can see him again in the near future.

- 彼は、キャロル･シオンネットさんによる「カルチャー･サイン」という映画の中で他のデフジャパンの生徒たちと一緒だった。彼女の映画が“Clin d’Oeil”で披露されました。
- シオンネットさんは、３年前に京都に来て６ヶ月間滞在してました。彼女は、多くのデフジャパンの生徒達と会いました。
- 彼女は、文化、コミュニケーションと手話の違いと彼女個人の経験を探検しました。これは、映画を作るための３年間の旅へと彼女を導いたインスピレーションだった。彼女は、他の映画祭でもその映画を提供し続けるでしょう。私たちは、彼女のために最善を願っています！www.culturesignes.com

3. ２０１３年度のデフリンピック（ブルガリアのソフィア市）が７月２６日～８月４日まで実施されます。カオリンが日本のバスケットボールチーム選手の小立哲也と同様に参加されます。
カオリン、ハンドサインと多くのボランティア者は、日本ろう選手の意識向上と資金集めを精力的に取り組んできました。
彼女らが素晴らしい試合と世界中のろう・難聴者たちとの交流を楽しんでくれるよう祈ってます！
3. Also the 2013 Deaflympics (Sophia, Bulgaria) will be from July 26 - Aug 4. Kaorin will be attending as well as Tetsuya Odachi, a member of Japanese Basket Ball team.
Kaorin, Handsign and many volunteers have been working tirelessly to raise awareness and funding for the Deaf Japanese Athletes.
We hope they will have great games and interact with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people around the world. 来月のスケジュールはこちら

７月ニュースレター July Newsletter
梅雨の季節ですが皆さんいかがお過ごしですか？ だいぶ暑くなり台風シーズンですね。
このニュースレターを書いている時は台風4号が接近し、150ミリ以上の雨が四国で降りました。
香川や大分、宮崎の友達の皆さんに何事も無ければいいですが。
また、今月は第61回全国ろうあ者大会が山形でありました。
山形は美味しいサクランボで有名で、家族や友達にお土産に買いました。
ろうあ者大会には3000人以上の方が参加されました。 写真やビデオはこちら
66th Hiroshima Deaf Conferencephoto
来年の第62回全国ろうあ者大会は長野で行われる様です。
長野はスキーやスノボのリゾート地、雪山の猿が温泉に入る事で知られています。
来年の大会が楽しみですね！

Next year, Nagano will hold the 62nd annual National Deaf Conference.
Nagano is very well known for it's Ski Resorts and Snow Monkeys that stay warm by staying in natural Hot Springs.

皆さんこんにちは。 もうすぐ6月ですね。そして、第６１回全国ろうあ大会が山形で行われます。
去年は京都で行われ、3千～4千人くらいの方が参加されました。
今年も是非多くの方々に参加して頂きたいと思います。
デフジャパンも山形に行きます。そして、そこで皆さんにお会いできることを楽しみにしてます！
皆さんは、今年の春をどう楽しみましたか？春はとても快適だけど、もうすぐ夏がやってきます！暑くなる前にASL BBQを楽しみましょう！！！
今月は、ギャローデット大学の学生、ゲイリーさんとカナダからのペーターさんが参加します。アメリカとカナダからのお客さんに会える、このチャンスを見逃さないでね！
インフォメーション：
飲み放題のみのため、ﾋﾞｰﾙ、酎ﾊｲ、ｼﾞｭｰｽなどの飲み物はこちらが用意するが、食べ物・焼き物だけを各自で持ってきてね。料理好きな方は、遠慮なく披露して～！
また、お友達、恋人、またはご家族を誘っても全然大丈夫やから、遊びに来てね。参加人数も忘れずに！
それと、BBQｾｯﾄ器具、ｸｰﾗｰﾎﾞｯｸｽ、ｼｰﾄ、お箸、ｺｯﾌﾟ、調味料、ﾀﾚ、焼そばｿｰｽなどはこちらが用意。 また、ｽｰﾊﾟｰ、ｺﾝﾋﾞﾆは近所にあるよ。

アメリカ手話 Basic ASLHello everyone,June is coming soon and the 61st National Deaf Conference will be taking place in Yamagata.
Last year's was held in Kyoto and there were 3,000 - 4,000 people who attended.
Hopefully, there will be many people coming this year.
DeafJapan will be going to Yamagata and we hope to see you there!How are you enjoying your Spring?
The weather is very nice! But soon summer will come. Before it gets too hot, let's have an ASL BBQ!!!
This month, Gary from Gallaudet University and Peter from Canada will join us. It will be a good chance to meet with people from America and Canada.

ギャリー先生に会う事、ギャリー先生からアメリカのろう者の近況を知れる事は皆さんにとって、とても素晴らしい経験になると思います。

Last month we were very lucky to have Ashley come teach with us.
This month we will have another teacher, Mr. Gary Hall Jr. from Gallaudet University. He is currently a student there and is very excited to come to Japan.
I hope you all can learn new ASL and some Gallaudet Sign Language from Gary. I think it will be a great experience for you all to meet Gary and find out what is happening with Deaf people in America.

日本のバレンタインはアメリカのバレンタインと真逆です。日本では女性が男性にチョコレートや手作り菓子をプレゼントしますが。アメリカでは男性が女性にギフトを送ります。バレンタインにチョコをもらった男性は、ホワイトデーのお返しを忘れないでくださいね。
2013年も無事に始まりました。 デフジャパンではアシュリーのレッスンが始まり3週間たちました。。アシュリーはコーダ(ろう者の親を持つ聴者）で、政府公認の手話通訳者でもあります。クラスは、対人、もしくはオンラインにて行っております。

And if you are in Japan, please remember that Valentines day is the opposite from America. Women bake chocolate goodies for men (Men, please do remember to return the favor on White Day, March 14)
2013 has gone off to a good start. Ashley, a Coda and nationally certified
ASL sign language interpreter has been teaching at DeafJapan for 3 weeks now.
Classes are done in person and over online.
In addition to a fun class, DeafJapan students are able to remember the ASL signs they learned from Ashley's videos:
